IAS Visiting Professor received 2014 Kavli Prize

IAS conveys its heartiest congratulations to IAS Visiting Professor, Sir John PENDRY for being awarded the Kavil Prize in the field of nanoscience jointly by the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, The Kavil Foundation and the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research. Sir John’s work on developing the theory underlying new optical nanoscale materials with unprecedented properties for formation of “perfect lenses” is recognized.

HKUST IAS-Scripps Scientists Discover Metamorphosed Protein-Building Enzymes as New Protein Therapeutics

The research team led by Prof Paul SCHIMMEL, IAS Visiting Professor and Ernest and Jean Hahn Professor of Molecular Biology and Chemistry at TSRI (California and Florida) and Prof Mingjie ZHANG, IAS Senior Fellow and Kerry Holdings Professor of Science of the Division of Life Science at IAS HKUST-Scripps R&D Laboratory collaborating with biotech company, aTyr Pharma has found 250 new proteins which highlights an intriguing oddity of protein evolution as well as a potentially valuable new class of therapeutic proteins.

IAS Bank of East Asia Professor #fac_ChingTang# gave a luncheon talk on the evolution of the next-generation display technology at The Hong Kong Bankers Club, co-hosted by Dr David K P Li, Chairman & Chief Executive of The Bank of East Asia, and Prof Tony F Chan, President of HKUST on 26 March 2014. In the talk, Prof Tang explained the path of the development of this revolutionary technology from early stage discovery to commercialization, and shared his insights into the potential applications of OLED.
