IAS Senior Fellow and his research team win State Natural Science Award for High-Performance Alcohol Fuel Cell

Prof Tianshou ZHAO, IAS Senior Fellow, Director of the HKUST Energy Institute and Chair Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at HKUST, and his research team have received a 2013 State Natural Science Award (Second Class) from the State Council of the People's Republic of China for their pioneering work on Direct Alcohol Fuel Cells (DAFC).

HKUST held a naming ceremony for HKUST Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) and an inauguration of HKUST Jockey Club IAS Named Professorships, marking another milestone in the University's innovative academic and technological development. In recognition of a generous donation by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, IAS is named after the Jockey Club. The University also received great support from The Bank of East Asia, Dr Helmut and Mrs Anna Sohmen, Si Yuan Foundation and TT & WF Chao Foundation, enabling HKUST to establish its first IAS Named Professsorships.

IAS Fellow Awarded the Morningside Gold Medal of Mathematics

Prof He Xuhua, IAS Fellow and Associate Professor of Mathematics at HKUST was awarded the prestigious 2013 Morningside Gold Medal of Mathematics. The announcement was made at the opening of the International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians (ICCM) in Taipei, Taiwan. Prof He is the only scholar in Hong Kong receiving this prestigious award this year.
