IAS Bank of East Asia Professor Ching W. Tang has been inducted in the US National Inventors Hall of Fame

It has recently been announced that IAS Bank of East Asia Professor Ching W. TANG will be inducted in the 2018 US National Inventors Hall of Fame for his pioneer work in Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) technology. The OLED is “an advance in flat-panel displays in computers, cell phones and televisions that provides increased power efficiency, longer battery life and improved display quality.” The US National Inventors Hall of Fame honors individuals whose inventions have made the world a better place.

IAS Visiting Professor Arup Chakraborty Elected to US National Academy of Medicine

Prof Arup CHAKRABORTY, IAS Visiting Professor, was announced to be one of the new members of the US National Academy of Medicine (NAM) at its recent annual meeting. This is among the highest honors recognizing outstanding contribution to health. Prof Chakraborty is among the 21 individuals who have been recognized at all three branches of the US National Academies, namely, NAM, the US National Academy of Sciences and the US National Academy of Engineering.

IAS Si Yuan Professor Gunther Uhlmann Awarded the Solomon Lefschetz Medal

Prof Gunther UHLMANN, IAS Si Yuan Professor and Chair Professor of Mathematics, was selected by the Mathematical Council of the Americas to receive the Solomon Lefschez Medal “for his universally recognized leadership of the rich and difficult field of inverse problems”. His research was commended for its ability to “combine sophisticated micro local analysis with and excellent taste for concrete physical problems”.

IAS Senior Fellow Honored with IEEE Photonics Society Aron Kressel Award

IAS Senior Fellow Kei May LAU, Fang Professor of Engineering and Chair Professor of Electronic and Computer Engineering, is selected as the sole 2017 honoree of the Aron Kressel Award, an award given annually since 2000 by the IEEE Photonics Society. She was commended for her "exceptional contribution in hetero-epitaxy of highly mismatched III-V photonics devices by MOCVD" and its lasting impacts.

IAS Bank of East Asia Professor Received the 2017 IEEE Nishizawa Medal

IAS Bank of East Asia Professor Ching W. TANG was awarded the 2017 IEEE Nishizawa Medal together with two other professors from the University of Michigan and the University of Southern California for their pioneering work on organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays. The medal was established in 2002 in honor of Prof Jun-ichi Nishizawa, the Father of Japanese Microelectronics, and it is presented to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to material and device science and technology, including practical application.
