IAS Visiting Professor received 2014 Kavli Prize

IAS conveys its heartiest congratulations to IAS Visiting Professor, Sir John PENDRY for being awarded the Kavil Prize in the field of nanoscience jointly by the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, The Kavil Foundation and the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research. Sir John’s work on developing the theory underlying new optical nanoscale materials with unprecedented properties for formation of “perfect lenses” is recognized.

IAS Visiting Professor awarded Fields Medal

IAS extends its congratulations to IAS Visiting Professor, Prof Manjul BHARGAVA, for being selected as a laureate of the prestigious Fields Medal, which is often described as the “Nobel Prize of Mathematics”, in the quadrennial International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) held in Seoul, South Korea. This award is to recognize Prof Bhargava’s work on developing powerful new methods in the geometry of numbers and applying them in elliptic curves. Fields Medal is only awarded to mathematicians not over 40 years of age at the year of ICM.

IAS Visiting Professor won the Carl Friedrich Gauss Prize

IAS Visiting Professor, Prof Stanley OSHER won the Carl Friedrich Gauss Prize, granted jointly by the International Mathematical Union and the German Mathematical Society. Prof Osher is honored for his influential contributions in applied mathematics which enhance development on computer vision, image processing, and computer graphics.

IAS Senior Fellow won the First Class 2013 National Science and Technology Awards

Prof Charles W. W. NG, IAS Senior Fellow and Chair Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, won the First Class in Scientific and Technological Progress, the Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards set up by the Ministry of Education. The award recognizes outstanding research projects at all tertiary institutions in China. This year, two HKUST projects won the award.

IAS Senior Fellow Receives Khwarizmi International Award

Prof Ben-Zhong TANG, IAS Senior Fellow and Stephen Kam Chuen Cheong Professor of Science and Chair Professor in the Department of Chemistry at HKUST, has been selected as a laureate of the 27th Khwarizmi International Award (KIA) by the Iranian Organization for Science and Technology. Prof Tang received the Khwarizmi International Award, Second Class, in recognition of his outstanding achievements in aggregation-induced emission (AIE) and its high-tech applications in the areas of optoelectronic devices, chemical sensors, and biological probes.
