IAS Senior Visiting Fellow Awarded Honorary Doctorate at HKUST's 24th Congregation

IAS Senior Visiting Fellow LUK Kam-Biu from the University of California at Berkeley was conferred an honorary degree (Doctor of Science honoris causa) at HKUST’s 24th Congregation. Prof Luk conceived an experiment to explore neutrino oscillation in 2002 that later marked the first impactful mega Sino-American scientific research collaboration based in China. He received the 2014 W K H Panofsky Prize from the American Physical Society, and the 2016 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics for the far-reaching attainments of his work.

IAS Visiting Professor elected to NAS

IAS extends its congratulations to IAS Visiting Professor Arup CHAKRABORTY for being elected to the US National Academy of Sciences, in recognition of his “distinguished and continuing achievements in original research”. Membership in the NAS is one of the most significant honors given to academic researchers in US. Prof Chakraborty is one of our three IAS Visiting Professors who are members of both NAS and the US National Academy of Engineering (NAE).

IAS Visiting Professor Receives the 2016 Buckley Prize

IAS Visiting Professor Eli YABLONOVITCH won the 2016 Oliver E. Buckley Condensed Matter Physics Prize for his seminal achievements in solar cells and strained quantum well lasers, and for creating the field of photonic crystals, spanning both fundamental science and practical applications of that science. Awarded by the American Physical Society, this prize is presented to those with outstanding theoretical or experimental contributions to condensed matter physics. Prof Yablonovitch became the third IAS Visiting Professor who won the Buckley Prize after Prof Marvin COHEN and Prof Patrick A. LEE.

IAS Visiting Professor Conferred Honorary Doctorate at HKUST's 23rd Congregation
