IAS Senior Fellow Professor Tianshou Zhao is Awarded the Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress Presented by The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation

IAS Senior Fellow Tianshou ZHAO, Cheong Ying Chan Professor of Engineering and Environment and Chair Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, was one of the two scientists who received the Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress from The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation, in recognition of his contributions to energy-efficient technologies and research achievements in clean, renewable energy storage devices and innovative e-fuel storage system which have positive impact on the environment.

The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation, which bestows prizes upon outstanding Chinese scientists who have achievements in science and technology development, is founded by donations from charitable foundations of Ho Sin Hang, Leung Kau Kui, Ho Tim, and Lee Quo Wei.

IAS Senior Fellow Professor Kei May Lau elected 2019 Fellow of Optical Society of America

IAS Senior Fellow Prof. Kei May LAU, Fang Professor of Engineering and Chair Professor of Electronic and Computer Engineering, has been elected a Fellow of Optical Society of America (OSA) in the Class of 2019 for her exceptional contributions to hetero-epitaxy of III-V compounds on silicon by MOCVD for photonic devices.

This distinction was awarded to OSA members for their significant contributions to the advancement of optics and photonics. The Society's bylaws allow the Fellows number to be no more than 10% of the total OSA Membership and only approximately 0.5% of the current membership total would be elected as Fellows annually.

IAS Bank of East Asia Professor Ching W. Tang receives the 2018 C&C Prize by NEC C&C Foundation

Prof Ching W. TANG has been recently selected as one of recipients of the 2018 C&C Prize by NEC C&C Foundation in recognition of his "discovery and pioneering development of thin-film organic light-emitting devices leading to the progress of organic electronics industry". The award honors Prof Tang’s outstanding contributions to R&D activities that brings impactful developments in the field.

IAS Bank of East Asia Professor Ching W. Tang Receives Honorary Degree for His Contribution to Science

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) conferred the award of Doctor of Science honoris causa to IAS Bank of East Asia Professor Ching W. TANG for his impactful invention of the OLED technology. At HKU’s 199th Congregation, Prof Tang was the only scientist receiving the honor this year. The honorary degree conferred by Mrs Carrie Lam, HKU’s Chancellor and the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, represents a significant recognition from the local community.

IAS Junior Fellow Kim Chow Elected Future Female Scientists

Dr Chow Hei-Man, IAS Junior Fellow and Research Assistant Professor of Life Science, has recently been elected to the Future Female Scientists program (未來女科學家計劃). She and another colleague both scored highest in the selection process and she herself is becoming the first person from Hong Kong to receive this nation-wide honor. She will represent China to compete for the International Rising Talent Grants established by the L’Oréal UNESCO For Women in Science program.
