Former IAS Senior Fellow / Fellow
Prof Hoi Sing KWOK
Professor Emeritus of Electronic and Computer Engineering, HKUST
Prof. Hoi Sing Kwok received his PhD in Applied Physics in 1978 from Harvard University. From 1978 to 1980, he worked at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory with Prof. Y.T. Lee (Nobel Laureate, 1986). From 1980 to 1992, he was with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, State University of New York at Buffalo, where he was a Professor since 1985. He is currently the Dr William M W Mong Professor of Nanotechnology of the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering at HKUST.

Prof. Kwok’s research interests include display technologies, light emitting thin film materials. He has over 500 publications and presented over 350 conference papers. He has also edited six conference proceedings and holds 30 patents. His latest book on Photoalignment (co-authored with Prof .V.G. Chigrinov) was published in 2008.

Prof. Kwok is active in professional activities. He has chaired and was a member of program committees of many international conferences. He was awarded a US Presidential Young Investigator Award in 1984 and the New York State/UUP Excellence Award in 1991. He is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America, a Fellow of IEEE and a Fellow of the Society for Information Display.
