IAS DISTINGUISHED LECTURE
Replacing the Transistor; Searching for the Milli-Volt Switch
Prof Eli Yablonovitch, University of California at Berkeley; Visiting Member of HKUST Institute for Advanced Study
Date : 21 Nov 2011 (Monday)
Time : 3:30 - 5:00pm
Venue : Padma and Hari Harilela Lecture Theater (LT-C), HKUST
Summary Details

Hundreds of thousands of electron volts are required just to move one bit of information in a tiny distance of 10 micrometers because of the difference in voltage scale between the wires and the transistor switches. The challenge then is to replace transistors with a new low-voltage switch that is better matched to the wires. Visiting Member Prof Eli Yablonovitch from UC Berkeley presents some of the technical options for such a new switch.

Free and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come first-served basis.
