GORDON RESEARCH CONFERENCE
Topological and Correlated Matter: New Materials and Structures in Topological and Correlated Systems
Date : 16 - 21 Jun 2019
Venue : HKUST Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study, Lo Ka Chung Building, Lee Shau Kee Campus, HKUST

Overview

In the past two years, we have been witnessing a rapid expansion in the field of topological and correlated materials. New materials, even atomically thin ones, are proposed to be topological insulators. Classification of topological phases is extended and candidates of higher order topological materials are found. Surprisingly, bilayer graphene with magic angle stacking joined the family of strongly correlated systems and is becoming a new venue to study electron-electron interactions and unconventional superconductivity. At the same time, the study of the interaction between superconductivity and topological materials, such as quantum anomalous Hall insulators and Weyl semimetals, is yielding fruitful results. Several new systems are proposed to host Majorana zero energy modes for quantum computation. During this exciting period of time, we would like to bring in pioneers in the field of topological and correlated materials to share their latest findings and insights with the participants. We believe that this will foster collaborations among researchers and provide an opportunity for young researchers to learn from leaders in the field.
