IAS DISTINGUISHED LECTURE
Unexpected and Separate Connections of tRNA Synthetases to HIV and to Novel Antibiotics
Prof Susan A. Martinis, Professor of Biochemistry and of Biophysics and Computational Biology, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Prof Karin Musier-Forsyth, Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Ohio State University
Date : 7 May 2015 (Thursday)
Time : 2:30 - 4:00 pm
Venue : IAS Lecture Theater, Lo Ka Chung Building, Lee Shau Kee Campus, HKUST
Video & Photos Details

Prof Susan A. Martinis from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign investigates the resistance mutations to Kerydin which has uncovered a tyrosine amino acid three-state “switch” that is important to editing, as well as a peptide “lid” that sequesters the editing site in fungal LeuRS while Prof Karin Musier-Forsyth from the Ohio State University shows that a highly conserved region of the HIV-1 RNA genome mimics the L-shaped fold of tRNA, providing a structural basis for understanding how this genomic RNA coordinates interactions with a tRNA-binding host factor to facilitate initiation of reverse transcription.

For attendees’ attention

The lecture is free and open to all. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Light refreshments will be served from 4:00 to 4:30 pm.
