IAS Senior Visiting Fellow Prof Curtis Suttle describes how viruses influence the composition of marine communities and act as a major force behind global nutrient and energy cycling. He also discusses how viruses cause death, but also sustain life by liberating nutrients that would otherwise be tied up.
