IAS PROGRAM ON PARTICLE THEORY
The Higgs Nexus is Adams' 42
Prof Ernest Ma, University of California at Riverside; Visiting Fellow of HKUST Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study
Date : 17 Oct 2014 (Friday)
Time : 2:00 pm
Venue : IAS4042, 4/F, Lo Ka Chung Building, Lee Shau Kee Campus, HKUST

Abstract

With the discovery of the 125 GeV particle at the Large Hadron Collider, it is time to study how it may be connected to other fundamental theoretical issues in particle physics and astrophysics, such as the origins of flavor and dark matter. The speaker proposes that all these are interconnected in a framework which has verifiable experimental consequences.

About the speaker:

Prof Ernest Ma received his BS at the California Institute of Technology and his PhD at the University of California, Irvine. He was on the faculty at the University of Hawaii from 1977-87 and joined the University of California, Riverside in 1987. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and was named as an inaugural Outstanding Referee of APS journals in 2008.

Prof Ma’s main research interests are in theoretical particle physics with emphasis on neutrinos and related phenomena. His works include phenomenological studies and model building for hadron-hadron and electron-positron scattering at high energies and research on the interplay between particle physics and astrophysics.

The seminar is free and open to all. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
