About the event

Prof. Ching W. Tang, IAS Bank of East Asia Professor and Chair Professor of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Chemistry and Physics at HKUST, is the recipient of the 2019 Kyoto Prize in Advanced Technology awarded by the Inamori Foundation in recognition for his "pioneering contributions to the birth of high-efficiency Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs) and their applications". He is a Hong Kong native and the first person of Chinese descent to win the Kyoto Prize since it was established in 1985.

The Kyoto Prize at Oxford is hosted by the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford. The program will include a live public lecture by Prof. Ching W. Tang (moderated by Ngaire Woods, Dean of the Blavatnik School of Government), followed by a panel discussion together with the 2019 Kyoto Prize Laureates Prof. James Gunn and Mrs. Ariane Mnouchkine. The Laureates will share their perspectives on achieving excellence and instigating change within their disciplines of chemistry, technology, astrophysics, theatre and beyond.
