Abstract

As the engine and source of innovation and development of the country, university undertakes a significant mission in the construction of an innovative country. Whether a university could contribute innovation power to the society continuously depends on whether we have the ability to encourage innovation with persistence, maintain an academic pursuit-oriented institution and enhance a lasting culture of invoking faculty to realize self-value and keep growing. The management core of Shanghai Jiao Tong University is to develop a management system which takes advantage of successful experience of the world-class universities as well as roots on the ground of China’s booming situation, with its essence lying in the comprehensive, systematic and constant encouragement for faculty, students and staff in our university to inspire innovation vitality. The fundamental dynamic of the development of a university, in essence, comes from the intrinsic demand of comprehensive development and self-realization of enormous faculty and students. As a result, the management philosophy of a university and school should change from the management-oriented to service-oriented, through which we can realize institutional incentives.
