Abstract
The talk will provide an introduction to the container shipping industry and some of the related upstream/downstream logistics activities. What are the major factors that drive the container shipping industry? How has the industry developed over the years, and what can people expect going forward? How are shipping lines involved in the logistics industry? The talk will also briefly cover the development of the shipping and logistics industries in Hong Kong.
About the speaker
Mr Andy Tung has been the Chief Executive Officer and Senior Managing Director of Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL - headquartered in Hong Kong) since July 2012. He is responsible for OOCL’s global business and growth. He also serves as an Executive Director and a member of the Executive Committee of Orient Overseas (International) Limited (OOIL), the parent company of OOCL, since March 2006. Prior to his current appointment, Mr Tung was the Chief Operating Officer of OOCL from January 2009 to June 2012. Between 1993 and 1998, he served the OOIL Group of companies in various capacities, including as Director of Reefer Trade of OOCL. He also held senior executive responsibilities in Hong Kong Dragon Airlines Limited, the last position as the Chief Operating Officer, prior to rejoining OOCL in 2006.
Mr Tung holds a Bachelor's degree from Princeton University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Stanford University. He is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Shipowners Association and was formerly the Vice-Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce Commission for Transport and Logistics.
