A Significant Platform to Bring Together Brilliant Minds

HKUST held a naming ceremony for HKUST Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) and an inauguration of HKUST Jockey Club IAS Named Professorships, marking another milestone in the University's innovative academic and technological development. In recognition of a generous donation by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, IAS is named after the Jockey Club. The University also received great support from The Bank of East Asia, Dr Helmut and Mrs Anna Sohmen, Si Yuan Foundation and TT & WF Chao Foundation, enabling HKUST to establish its first IAS Named Professsorships.

HKUST Appoints Prof Henry Tye as IAS Director

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology announced the appointment of Prof Henry TYE as Director of the Institute for Advanced Study with effect from January 2011. Currently Horace White Professor of Physics at Cornell University, Prof Tye grew up in Hong Kong and received his PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1974. His primary research interest is in elementary particle theory, including topics such as high energy phenomena, interface between particle physics and cosmology and superstring theory.

Commencement of Construction on IAS Building

A commencement ceremony was held for the construction of the Lee Shau Kee Campus at HKUST. As a key infrastructural component of our campus development, the Lee Shau Kee Campus comprises the Business Building and the Institute for Advanced Study and occupies an area of about 10 hectares.
