Recent Developments in the Ubiquitin System: Mechanisms, Drug Targeting, and Future Challenges
Prof Aaron Ciechanover, The Rappaport Faculty of Medicine and Research Institute, Technion - Israel Institute of Technology; Visiting Member of HKUST Institute for Advanced Study; Nobel Laureate in Chemistry
Date : 14 May 2008 (Wednesday)
Time : 4:00 - 5:30 pm
Venue : Ben C. M. Wong Technology Education Theater (Room 6580, 6/F via Lifts 27-28), HKUST

About the speaker

Born and raised in Israel, Prof Aaron Ciechanover won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2004 for his contributions to the discovery of ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation. The complex cascade of the ubiquitin pathway revolutionizes the field of research for life scientists. It is clear now that degradation of cellular proteins is a highly complex, temporally controlled, and tightly regulated process that plays major roles in a variety of basic pathways during cell life and death, and in health and disease.

Prof Ciechanover is a Visiting Member and International Advisory Board Member of the Institute for Advanced Study at HKUST.

The seminar is free and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
