GORDON RESEARCH CONFERENCE
Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma: Global Lessons on Cancer Pathogenesis from Insights into a Geographically Restricted Tumor of the Nasopharynx
Date : 26 Jun 2016 - 1 Jul 2016
Venue : HKUST Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study, Lo Ka Chung Building, Lee Shau Kee Campus, HKUST

Overview

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a deadly cancer arising in the nasopharynx and has its highest incidence worldwide in Southern Asians. The etiology of this unique cancer includes three co-factors that include host genetics, Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) infection, and environmental factors. How these factors contribute to the development of this cancer provide important lessons for understanding tumor pathogenesis.

This conference brings together experts spanning the fields of cancer biology and virology, genetics, epidemiology, translational medicine, and novel therapeutic approaches. It will provide a unique opportunity to consider how an understanding of basic mechanisms can be translated into innovative diagnosis and treatment.

Sessions will be led by world-leading plenary speakers, who will provide oversight lectures covering areas such as cancer genomics, carcinogenesis, DNA repair, novel diagnostic biomarkers, and innovative therapies. These lectures will set the scene for more specific consideration of NPC and provide opportunities for detailed discussion and constructive interactions.
