IAS DISTINGUISHED LECTURE
From Molecules to Muscle: Multiscale Dynamics of Movement in Biology
Prof Tom Daniel, Komen Endowed Chair of Biology, University of Washington; Senior Visiting Fellow of HKUST Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study
Date : 10 Sep 2015 (Thursday)
Time : 3:00 - 4:30 pm
Venue : IAS Lecture Theater, Lo Ka Chung Building, Lee Shau Kee Campus, HKUST
Video & Photos Details

Prof Tom Daniel from the University of Washington reviews the history of the understanding of muscle and movement in biology and explores both conceptual and computational models of the molecular determinants of motion. He also explores force measurement at the whole muscle level with simultaneous measurements at the micrometer and nanometer scales. Additionally he uses high speed, time-resolved, small angle x-ray diffraction to reveal real-time dynamics of the molecular players associated with force generation and energy storage.

For attendees’ attention

The lecture is free and open to all. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Light refreshments will be served from 4:30 to 5:00 pm.
