Welcome

The rapidly developing fields of metamaterials and plasmonics are being driven by the active participation of researchers from different disciplines from science and engineering. New ideas and new techniques such as transformation optics have emerged to fuel the excitement in this field but at the same time brought in new challenges. This program will have emphasis on theory and simulations, and will bring together colleagues with different backgrounds to explore different aspects of metamaterials, plasmonics and transformation optics. The goal is to understand the properties of new artificial structures, to explore new techniques to design these advanced composites, to seek for new phenomena and functionality, and to see how these new materials can be incorporated in actual components and devices. Participants in the Program will be provided with offices in IAS so that they can work on site and will have the opportunities to exchange ideas with researchers in the field and form new collaborations.

A 5-day conference in conjunction with the long program
In conjunction with the two-month program which allows participants to have close interaction in a relaxed atmosphere, we will also host a 5-day conference on the same topics (from Oct 3 to Oct 7) which features an intensive program of talks and posters on various aspects on metamaterials, plasmonics and transformation optics. This is to take into account that many colleagues have classes to teach and hence cannot afford extended periods of time away from their home institutions. The conference can be viewed as a standalone event for those who can only come for a short visit.
