The Minister reviewed the Mainland’s national Science and Innovation Strategy and Development Plan, the national S&T programs and construction of key laboratories, and major achievements in basic and applied research on the Mainland in recent years. Prof Chu briefed the Minister and his team on the vision and mission and operation mode of the IAS at HKUST, and expressed his wish for IAS to serve as a platform for more extensive exchanges and further collaboration with the Ministry on scientific projects. |
Minister Xu remarked that given the sound foundation of research and development in Hong Kong, there was much scope to strengthen joint efforts among Hong Kong and the Mainland, particularly in biomedical science and technology. He expressed the wish to see accelerated economic transformation and regional development, with Guangdong and Hong Kong taking the leadership in southern China. |
The Ministry would give vigorous support to cross-region integration of science and technology resources and exchange of talents so that different localities may complement each other to the mutual benefit of all. The Ministry stands ready to provide assistance and service to Hong Kong’s S&T development and economic growth, and to the IAS at HKUST. |
